IN MEMORIAM

John “Caleb” Kearley

The Dothan Branch of ASCE lauds the students of the Wiregrass Area who have chosen to pursue an education and profession in civil engineering.  We are especially proud of our scholarship winners and those who return to the Wiregrass to pursue and develop their careers.  Occasionally they carry their Wiregrass upbringing to other parts of the state and country.  All have been worthy representatives of the Wiregrass Area and the Dothan Branch of ASCE.  Sadly, there are the occasions of premature death among our number.  Such was the case with one of our scholarship winners and the son of one of our members.  2011 scholarship winner, Caleb Kearley was killed in a car crash on his way to work in 2012 after completing his freshman year at Auburn University. Caleb was following in his father’s and older brother’s footsteps on his way to becoming a Civil Engineer when his life was cut much too short. Caleb was a star student at Northview High School in Dothan, an avid soccer, cross country, ultimate frisbee athlete, and a much-loved friend to all who knew him.  The Dothan Branch of ASCE was proud in 2013 to name our scholarship in honor of Caleb. Caleb exemplified all the values and tenets the Dothan Branch looks for in students and we are proud to honor him in this way.
